Field of Light, an installation by British light artist Bruce Munro, opened this weekend at The Holbourne Museum. Field of Light consists of a stunning 5,000 lightbulbs "planted" around the museum grounds creating something akin to Avatar's glowing Pandora landscape.
Breathtaking - if you're in the UK - check it out! Its open through January 2012.

"Light Hearted"
The winner for this year's Time Square Valentine design competition is "Light Hearted" by Lauren Crahan and John Hartmann, of Brooklyn-based Freecell.
The heart will be in Duffy Square from Feb 10-20 and it depends entirely on volunteers to actually work. The heart is composed of 6 pairs of metal rings held in the air by volunteers and any extra Time Square visitors who want to participate.
Freecell beat out finalists BIG (Bjarke Ingles Group) - City Pulse & Marc Fornes Design - Fluttering Hearts for this year's Time Square Valentine. You can see their entries on the TS Valentine Competition website.
I certainly hope enough people volunteer to keep it in the air the whole time! If you're interested in volunteering, you can sign up on the website - www.lighthearted.us

Roman Ondák is amazing

Roman Ondák is creating another living infographic at the temporary stedelijk. He's a Slovakian artist plotting visitors’ heights whose mean will become increasingly apparent over the four months of the exhibition. Ondák created "Measuring the Universe" at the Museum of Modern Art last year and gave visitors a similar experience. Attendants measure visitors by height, first name and date. What started as boring white walls quickly becomes a visualization of aggregated data.
Since I'm doing my thesis on data visualization, its always so fun to see how far outside of the box one can go to show a visualization. Instead of a printed or even interactive graphic, bound by paper edges or screen edges, Ondák has created a visualization you can be a part of. With your participation, it will not look the same, and without any participation, it could not exist at all. How fantastic.
